Requirements:

Education: Candidates should have completed a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline Occupational Health and Safety Technology and Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have extensive and progressive experience in the Construction Occupational Health, Safety, Environment, and Security fields
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of preparing accident, incident reports with an emphasis on preventative measures, highly developed organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and presentation skills
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience in the safety operations of a large public or private sector construction organization accreditation by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP)
- The candidates should have a comprehensive understanding and demonstrated application of relevant safety industry standards (such as COR, ISO 45001) and occupational health and safety legislation in a construction setting
- The candidates should have advanced knowledge and understanding of hazards and controls associated with construction in the transit sector, including subway tracks, tunnels, stations, yards, streetcar networks, bus garages, shops, and buildings
- The candidates should be familiar with the operations and services available from the Ministry of Labour, Training, Skills and Development (MLTSD), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA), and Workplace Safety Prevention Services (WSPS), ability to self-start, establish strong relationships, and provide excellent safety guidance and coaching to project and construction teams
- The candidates should have an advanced understanding of incident investigation methodologies and be able to identify areas for improvement in safety systems and procedures
- The candidates should have highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to develop, communicate, and present occupational health and safety topics to all levels of the organization
- The candidates should be proficient in the use of office technology, software, and applications relevant to the job, a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence
- The candidates should have the ability to perform duties in all seasons and weather conditions, including working on rough terrain, entering confined spaces, and climbing ladders, scaffolds, and catwalks
- The candidates should have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and related orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements for passengers and employees
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide ongoing guidance and support by offering health and safety input into design and construction documents, performing site safety inspections, and responding to safety issues and emergencies
- The candidates should be able to complete incident investigations, monitor contractor safety performance, and develop or deliver safety training
- The candidates should be able to assist in the development, maintenance, and administration of the ECE Health and Safety Program
- The candidates should be able to conduct health and safety functions related to occupational health and safety management, incident prevention, environmental protection, and security activities
- The candidates should be able to evaluate contractor health and safety programs, perform site safety observations, and ensure compliance with contractual and legislative requirements
- The candidates should be able to support accident and incident investigations to determine and implement preventative actions
- The candidates should be able to deliver safety training, seminars, and presentations on legislated occupational health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
- The candidates should be able to act as an advisor to ECE Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC) and support contractor separations to ensure adherence to Ministry of Labour (MOL) Designation of Projects
- The candidates should be able to assist in the development of Job Safety Analyses and Task Hazard Reviews while drafting safety communications related to hazard awareness and procedures
- The candidates should be able to support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful workplace by helping to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers in line with applicable legislation and TTC policies
