Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited program from a recognized institution
Experience: Candidates should have 1 year of experience in quantity food preparation in a large facility, preferably in a healthcare setting, and must possess inter-provincial chef’s papers (Red Seal)

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions and must be able to cope with the physical demands of the job and work with diverse clients and staff
  • The candidates should have the ability to work both independently and as a team member with limited direct supervision

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a certificate in food safety and sanitation and basic knowledge of therapeutic diets
  • The candidates should have effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and the ability to follow the safety protocols, policies, and procedures of the department
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable about and demonstrate some proficiency in the use of Windows-based computer applications

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to cook menu items according to the recipe or instructions and daily production schedule, maintaining a high standard of quality in food preparation
  • The candidates should be able to record temperatures as per department and industry standards, labeling and storing foods appropriately in the designated areas
  • The candidates should be able to decant food items according to production requirements and deliver food to the belt line as designated
  • The candidates should be able to maintain sanitation and safety standards in accordance with applicable revisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, professional standards, and guidelines set by Public Health for the City of Toronto and CAMH corporate and departmental Policies and Procedures
  • The candidates should be able to assist in creating and testing recipes and the development of menus
  • The candidates should be able to report issues to the Supervisor and resolve routine issues within the scope of responsibility
  • The candidates should be able to support and participate in risk management, patient safety, and quality improvement activities departmentally and organization wide, participating in production meetings
