Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a university degree in Architecture, or the equivalent, combined with several years of experience in architectural design facilities
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the transit facility design field considered an asset.

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate an ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, and express themselves clearly in writing
  • The candidates must pass tests set by the Materials & Procurement Department, corresponding in content to the knowledge, theory, and/or practical requirements described
  • The candidates should be required to attend and successfully complete the TTC Training Department’s instruction for forklift truck operation and obtain a Class “DZ” License
  • The candidates must also attend and successfully complete WHMIS training, as well as training for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Subway/SRT Rule Book
  • The candidates should be proficient in the use of a personal computer and in Outlook
  • The candidates must possess a valid non-probationary class “G” Driver’s License
  • The candidates should have an Electrical background as considered an asset
  • The candidates must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
  • The candidates should apply analytical skills and effectively communicate in a variety of mediums
  • The candidates should be able to plan and organize activities/projects to meet section and organizational goals
  • The candidates should be proficient in using office technology, software, and applications, and be able to apply the principles and practices of quality assurance
  • The candidates should demonstrate specialized expertise and knowledge in the assigned field
  • The candidates should have the ability to manage human resources effectively
  • The candidates should be a licensed Architect in good standing with the Ontario Association of Architects, with eligibility for a professional seal
  • The candidates should possess a sound knowledge of architectural design principles, methods, and practices
  • The candidates should have knowledge of design, specifications, construction, and contracting techniques
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of municipal and provincial planning and zoning requirements and processes, as well as familiarity with national and provincial construction-related standards, codes, and statutes related to the transit system and its facilities
  • The candidates should be familiar with budgeting procedures and practices
  • The candidates should have a strong working knowledge of Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and a good working knowledge of related computer software such as MicroStation, Photoshop, and MS Office applications

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide full, professional architectural design services for work associated with TTC facilities, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with all relevant codes, and adequacy of design
  • The candidates should be able to prioritize safety, constructability, and maintainability in their designs, ensuring that all aspects meet the required standards
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate cost-effectiveness in their designs, considering budgetary constraints and optimizing resources
  • The candidates should be able to ensure timely completion of design documents, adhering to project schedules and deadlines effectively
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to gather input and feedback, incorporating them into the design process as necessary
  • The candidates should be able to stay updated on industry standards and best practices, integrating new technologies and methodologies into their designs where appropriate
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with team members and clients, providing clear explanations and updates on project progress
  • The candidates should be able to address any issues or concerns that arise during the design process promptly and effectively, finding appropriate solutions to ensure project success
  • The candidates should be able to direct and check the work of Architectural Technologists and Design Draftspersons, as well as any other assigned support staff, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate and verify code compliance for new and existing facilities, conducting regular construction site field reviews and submitting reports as required by permit and codes. They should also prepare deficiency reports as necessary
  • The candidates should be able to develop technical, preliminary, and pre-design reports, including schematic designs, and prepare work plans, coordinating input and staff assignments effectively
  • The candidates should be able to act as a design lead where assigned, developing and preparing full contract documentation to meet project objectives
  • The candidates should be able to provide architectural design support to the Operations Group departments as required, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and standards
  • The candidates should be able to develop and update design standards and master specifications, including directive and standard drawings, and contribute to design manual updates
  • The candidates should be able to conduct design and development reviews, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring quality standards are met
  • The candidates should be able to check, sign, and seal documentation where appropriate and required, demonstrating accountability and compliance with regulatory standards
  • The candidates should demonstrate behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment, actively working to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under relevant legislation and policies
