Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a two-year diploma in surveying from an accredited college or institution
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience in either engineering or legal surveying

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of operating a computer to assist in data downloading, read and interpret legal survey plans and base mapping products
  • The candidates should be thorough and meticulous in their work and a courteous and informative demeanor when dealing with City staff and the public
  • The candidates should demonstrate initiative and responsibility in their role and ensure that fieldwork meets legislative requirements and follows the Surveys and Mapping Branch procedural guide
  • The candidates should document observations in a clear and concise manner, ensure that electronic data is stored correctly, perform routine equipment tests on a regular basis and operate City vehicles safely and perform daily maintenance checks
  • The candidates should have effective interpersonal relationship skills, demonstrate tact, initiative, reliability, and thoroughness and be physically capable of performing

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold a valid Ontario unrestricted G-class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than six demerit points accumulated
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Ontario Land Registration System and understand the 3º MTM and 6º UTM Coordinate System
  • The candidates should have experience with GPS equipment, electronic total station equipment, and conventional rod and level equipment
  • The candidates should have knowledge of provincial statutes relating to surveying and Ontario Cadastral Survey Fabric
  • The candidates should have knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to function as a member of a survey crew and support Survey Technologists in field operations
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the collection of laser scanning, topographic, and legal survey information
  • The candidates should be able to operate and maintain survey equipment under the guidance of Survey Technologists
  • The candidates should be able to ensure accurate data collection and documentation and follow established survey procedures and safety guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to assist with site preparation and equipment setup for survey activities and perform other related duties
