Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience as a supervisor in the electrical utility industry

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be detail-oriented and possess exceptional problem-solving, planning, project management, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, along with strong computer skills
  • The candidates should hold an MEA (EDA) Journeyman Power Lineperson Certification with ten years of related experience and possess a Red Seal
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop and implement plans and budgets, as well as allocate resources effectively
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Electrical Safety Authority Regulation 22/04 and E&USA rule book, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Utility Work Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid, and all other applicable legislation
  • The candidates should show a strong personal commitment to customer and business unit initiatives and possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • The candidates should Interact with others, including employees, employee representatives, and customers, should enhance cooperative working relations, trust, and mutual respect
  • The candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to developing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment and assume accountability for decisions made and results, empowering others to maximize their involvement and contribution to the success of the work unit
  • The candidates should Demonstrate sound business ethics, performance management, and an effective personal work management approach that assumes work is organized and delivered on a timely and quality basis
  • The candidates should hold a valid Class “DZ” driver’s license with an excellent driving record
  • The candidates should experience in the use of MS Office products, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and the Windows operating system

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to take responsibility for the assigned construction and maintenance of area transmission and distribution systems for Timmins and Sault Ste. Marie and supervise all levels of staff reporting and administer applicable policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to assess, plan, budget, and schedule section work, being accountable for the safety of the unit and able to monitor work in progress, review work methods, and ensure that appropriate materials, tools, transport, and work equipment are available
  • The candidates should be able to administer and monitor contract work and assist in maintaining a high level of public and employee relations
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that staff are adequately trained and provide necessary data and reports on section activities
  • The candidates should be able to supervise subordinate supervisors and crews of tradespersons performing work on all types of transmission and distribution equipment
  • The candidates should be able to ensure discipline is maintained and monitor work performance of crews in areas such as quality and quantity of work, timekeeping, conduct, and cost-effectiveness
  • The candidates should be able to execute the annual work program, monitor program status, and report progress
  • The candidates should be able to assign appropriate portions of the work program to subordinate supervisors and provide safety leadership to the unit, liaising with the public
  • The candidates should be able to administer and monitor outside line resources (contractor and construction)
  • The candidates should be able to ensure appropriate tools, transport, and work equipment to meet work program needs are available and maintained
