Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of post-secondary education in biological or natural sciences
Experience: Candidates should have experience handling and working with live fish in Canada within recreational, commercial, or academic environments
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should work independently with minimal supervision
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a combination of education, training, and experience working with fish and knowledge of biosecurity procedures, including operating and maintaining equipment
- The candidates should demonstrate strong observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain full and accurate records and experience recording, maintaining, and analyzing data
- The candidates should have knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health practices and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with teams and stakeholders
- The candidates should have effective verbal communication skills and experience using Microsoft Office
- The candidates should have a Class 3 driver’s licence with an air brake endorsement and experience operating and maintaining small engine and electric equipment, as well as boats and watercraft
- The candidates should hold a valid Pleasure Watercraft Operator Licence and experience backing up and hauling trailers and boats
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to oversee and organize daily fish husbandry operations at the Whiteshell Hatchery
- The candidates should be able to conduct fish health and management activities at the facility
- The candidates should be able to perform basic maintenance of infrastructure and manage the operations of the Whiteshell Hatchery potable and geothermal water systems
- The candidates should be able to determine fish inventories accurately and fabricate and repair equipment
- The candidates should be able to organize, load, distribute, and report on up to 500,000 trout (various life stages) and approximately 10 million walleye fry for stocking sites across the province
