The Governing Council of The Salvation Army based in Ottawa, ON is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Housekeeping attendant. The Governing Council of The Salvation Army is a key administrative body responsible for overseeing and guiding the operations of The Salvation Army in Canada. As a faith-based organization dedicated to serving vulnerable populations and providing humanitarian aid, The Salvation Army operates various programs and services, including shelters, addiction recovery programs, food banks, and community outreach initiatives. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 2 to less than 3 years 
Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots
Credentials: Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should excel in a fast-paced environment and be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, efficiently handling repetitive tasks
  • The candidates should be capable of handling heavy loads and physically demanding work, demonstrating attention to detail in all aspects of their work, and being comfortable with bending, crouching, and kneeling as needed
  • The candidates should be adaptable to a combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout their workday, and able to stand for extended periods when required, ensuring flexibility and comfort in various work conditions

  • The candidates should prioritize client focus in their work, being dependable and reliable, and possessing efficient interpersonal skills for effective communication
  • The candidates should exhibit excellent oral communication abilities, demonstrate flexibility in their approach to tasks and responsibilities, and take initiative in their work.
  • The candidates should be reliable in fulfilling their responsibilities, be team players collaborating effectively with others, and adhere to strong values and ethics in their professional conduct, ensuring a positive and ethical work environment

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to sweep, mop, wash, and polish floors to maintain cleanliness and appearance, as well as dust furniture to remove dirt and debris, and keep surfaces clean
  • The candidates should be able to vacuum carpeting, area rugs, draperies, and upholstered furniture to remove dust and dirt particles, make beds, and change sheets to ensure guest comfort and hygiene standards
  • The candidates should be able to distribute clean towels and toiletries to guest rooms and bathrooms, stock the linen closet with fresh linens and supplies, and clean, disinfect, and polish kitchen and bathroom fixtures and appliances to maintain hygiene standards
  • The candidates should be able to disinfect operating rooms and other areas to prevent the spread of infections, clean and disinfect elevators to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for guests, and handle and report lost and found items according to established procedures
  • The candidates should be able to provide basic information on facilities to guests and visitors, pick up debris and empty trash containers to maintain cleanliness and hygiene, wash windows, walls, and ceilings to remove dirt and grime buildup, and clean changing rooms and showers to ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are met
