Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Adult Education or Education
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years instructional experience in the field of Adult Literacy and Basic Education and Aboriginal and Northern education

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to research and update course materials and delivery methods to maintain current programs
  • The candidates should stand, move around, and actively engage with students in the classroom. This involves maintaining a level of physical activity to facilitate effective teaching and interaction

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a detailed theoretical and practical understanding of the specific subject matter of instruction and familiar with adult instructional methods, program/project development and management, needs assessment, and curriculum development
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of adult education theory, program design, development, management, delivery, and evaluation and knowledge of educational issues in the NWT and understand the challenges that adult students face in NWT communities
  • The candidates should be well-versed in all applicable laws, acts, regulations, rules, policies, guidelines, requirements, and codes in the specific subject matter of instruction and proficiency in computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet program
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of northern culture, cross-cultural processes, and politics and ability to conduct basic academic counseling and provide life skill coaching
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of the organization and structure of the College and understand the relationships between the College and various partners in the communities and across the Territories
  • The candidates should possess different skill sets tailored to specialties such as math, social science, science, and others
  • The candidates should have relevant experience of one school year in a targeted specialty area, which would be included on the job poster

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to instruct in a variety of programs and must be devoted to developing and delivering quality courses and resources, in addition to promoting positive career development for adult students within communities of the Northwest Territories
  • The candidates should be able to conduct needs assessments and develop, deliver, and evaluate programming to meet those needs
  • The candidates should be able to act as a representative of the College within the community, playing a critical role in creating and promoting a positive image for the College
