Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completed Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 months of related experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be reliable, be self-motivated and flexible, a desire to learn new skills and be organized
- The candidates should be safety oriented, the physical ability to perform the work, be available to work overtime and on-call
- The candidates should be able to communicate effectively, demonstrate good interpersonal skills, work effectively as part of a team and independently
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- The candidates should be able to complete all required on-the-job training and certifications WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry) within the timeframe determined by the employer
- The candidates should have knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- The candidates should conduct themselves in accordance with the City’s Code of Conduct and other City policies to reflect a positive image to the public, contractors, and other City of Ottawa employees
- The candidates should be able to safely operate equipment and tools, use a computer and learn to operate mobile handheld units and possess mechanical aptitude
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide manual labour to support Unit or Branch staff with the inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of Water Services infrastructure
- The candidates should be able to assist in the operation and maintenance of the City’s fire hydrants, ensuring they function effectively for both public use and emergency response
- The candidates should be able to support activities related to the condition assessment, leak detection, and repair of water mains, valves, and service lines within the City of Ottawa’s water distribution system
- The candidates should be able to provide support for City capital and private development works related to buried water distribution infrastructure
- The candidates should be able to perform or assist with inspections, maintenance, and general repairs of sanitary, combined, and storm sewer system structures that do not require excavation
- The candidates should be able to maintain and repair wastewater collection assets such as access/maintenance chambers, catch basins, inlet/outlet grills, regulators, and manhole covers
