Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a high school, general equivalency diploma, with preference given to those with post-secondary education in a technical trade
Experience: Candidates should have 1 to 2 years of previous supervisory experience in transportation, oil and gas, military, airlines, mining, or manufacturing industries
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to travel for extended periods, with training delivered in multiple locations, be willing to relocate across the CPKC network
- The candidates should be available to work 24/7 shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, work in all weather conditions
- The candidates should be able to foster trust and credibility in new work environments and build strong relationships across the business
- The candidates should have proven time management skills and strong oral and written communication abilities
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have past railway experience in track maintenance, foreman, or machine operator roles, possess a valid driver’s license
- The candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey CPKC policies, procedures, project plans, and safety guidelines
- The candidates should demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing task priorities and work situations
- The candidates should have a leadership presence with the drive and commitment to career advancement
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to quickly learn, retain, and utilize railroad operating systems, applications, and local operating plans to assign tasks and manage productivity within engineering teams
- The candidates should be able to be a safety leader by conducting active observations, discussing rule compliance, and implementing preventative measures through staff engagement
- The candidates should be able to exhibit strong leadership skills to effectively lead engineering department employees
- The candidates should be able to model effective leadership competencies, including driving for results, leading others, leading thought, and leading by example
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate a sense of urgency when prioritizing work and make decisions aligned with CPKC’s values of accountability, diversity, and pride, as well as the five foundations: operate safely, develop people, control costs, optimize assets, and provide service
- The candidates should be able to complete and pass management train conductor certification and be available for deployment as required by the business, understanding that failure to pass will result in removal from the program
- The candidates should be able to successfully complete all phases of the LMT program by achieving minimum requirements on written and practical evaluations and delivering all reading assignments and projects within assigned timelines
