Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program
Experience: Candidates should have 1 year of occupational therapy experience working in adult urban settings (hospital, clinics, home care)
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have effective interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to connect with patients, families, and healthcare teams through various modes of communication (verbal, written, Zoom, email)
- The candidates should be able to perform physical demands that include repetitive lifting, transferring of patients and equipment, as well as prolonged sitting, keyboarding/computer, and headset use
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT), active Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS Certification by the start date
- The candidates should demonstrate empathy and compassion with a deep understanding of the functional, cognitive, and emotional needs of patients with cancer
- The candidates should have experience with discharge planning and community resources, experience with wheelchair and seating assessments, demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills
- The candidates should possess proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- The candidates should have experience with oncology, palliative patients and rehabilitation protocols related to cancer, pain and symptom management, experience with Epic/Connect Care
- The candidates should be an AADL Authorizer and experience with a wide spectrum of OT skills, e.g., splinting, adaptive aids/equipment, orthotic devices and methods of pressure reduction, facilitating return to work/school, and lymphedema management
- New graduates from a recognized and accredited Occupational Therapy program are encouraged to apply
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to support clients in achieving optimal functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations
- The candidates should be able to provide comprehensive Occupational Therapy services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with clients and families to incorporate them as integral members of the healthcare team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care
- The candidates should be able to work closely with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation plans
- The candidates should be able to participate in interprofessional teams to enhance support, build awareness, and contribute to quality improvement efforts
- The candidates should be able to partner with healthcare providers, patients, families, and stakeholders to advance services for clients
- The candidates should be able to contribute to quality improvement initiatives and professional development within the healthcare community
- The candidates should be able to engage in peer mentoring and provide supervision to students, Therapy Assistants, and Therapy Aides
