Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program
Experience: Candidates should have Minimum 1 year clinical experience within the last five (5) years in adult inpatient or outpatient acute care or rehabilitation setting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared for repetitive lifting, twisting, and transferring of patients and/or equipment
  • The candidates should be required to sit for prolonged periods and perform keyboarding/computer and headset use

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • The candidates should hold an active Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and have It’s your move patient handling certification
  • The candidates should possess an Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Authorizer designation and have oncology and/or palliative experience
  • The candidates should have experience or training using electronic medical records within the past 12 months, such as EPIC/Connect care
  • The candidates should have experience with splinting equipment and fabrication of custom splints; adaptive aid and equipment; orthotic devices, including both commercial and fabricated and experience in the past 12 months with referral triage and caseload management
  • The candidates should have experience working with Therapy Assistants and experience using virtual technology to deliver patient care (phone, Zoom, Telehealth)
  • The candidates should possess intermediate to advanced computer skills in Netcare, Microsoft Office, and EMR (EPIC, ARIA) and ability to work within a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team of health care professionals
  • The candidates should have Complete Decongestive Therapy, CLT certification, or certification in Lymphedema Management and have 3 years of clinical experience within the last five (5) years in an adult inpatient or outpatient acute care or rehabilitation setting
  • The candidates should have experience in program development, evaluation, best practice implementation, and representing OT on committees and have experience performing Manual Lymphatic Drainage
  • The candidates should have undertaken professional development in the past year related to rehabilitation oncology

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assess and treat patients, as well as develop, implement, and evaluate treatment programs according to professional practice standards, supervise students, and provide staff education
  • The candidates should be able to provide evidence-informed services designed to meet the needs of individuals/groups, defining protocols for the treatment of a wide range of symptoms from various types of cancer
  • The candidates should be able to perform outpatient occupational therapy treatment for cancer, participate in the development and delivery of patient education classes, and assess/manage lymphedema, pain, and symptoms related to head and neck, breast cancer, and other cancer groups
  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for coordinating occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area and provide supervision to students and team members as assigned
  • The candidates should be able to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals and make day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge, and follow-up
  • The candidates should be able to make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases, providing clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient, and effective client care
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics, and AHS policy and guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to provide coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area, monitor care delivery, identify service needs, assist other medical staff with caseload management, complete chart audits, and provide follow-up and feedback to staff
  • The candidates should be able to participate in program development and operational planning, representing the department on committees or programs and make decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow, and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers
  • The candidates should be able to carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator, and/or advocate in the program or service area
