Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a bachelors degree in botany, ecology, agro-ecology or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in training or mentoring scientific and technical personnel

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing and able to work overtime when required and work out-of-town with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels, and tents
  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require extensive hours of computer work with a monitor and keyboard, and moderate physical effort when conducting fieldwork
  • The candidates should be able to travel within Manitoba via motorized vehicle

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence and have knowledge and understanding of prairie habitat management planning
  • The candidates should have experience in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of range management programs and have organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet competing deadlines, plan and track budgets, and prepare financial reports
  • The candidates should possess effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with a variety of groups
  • The candidates should have strong written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to draft scientific reports, plain language documents, and materials for diverse audiences, including funding proposals, reports, recommendations, policy, and legislation
  • The candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and have experience in initiating and completing projects
  • The candidates should have technical knowledge of geographic information systems, mathematical and computer analysis, and data management
  • The candidates should have the ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to plan, coordinate, organize, and supervise the administration and management of prairie-habitat stewardship programs and management plans for upland areas on private and crown land
  • The candidates should be able to possess strong organizational and leadership skills to effectively manage prairie-habitat stewardship programs and initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to have a comprehensive understanding of prairie ecosystems and habitat management principles to develop effective management plans
  • The candidates should be able to review prairie-related development or funding proposals, municipal development plans, and municipal by-laws and prepare appropriate responses on behalf of the Branch
