Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate
Experience: Candidates should have psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and addictions
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the prevention and management of disturbed behavior
- The candidates should have an understanding of how to develop and implement forensic risk assessment plans and a fundamental knowledge of forensic legal and health systems
- The candidates should be self-directed team players who are highly organized and able to work within an inter-professional collaborative team environment
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and medication administration certification or have completed an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration
- The candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative, inter-professional team
- The candidates should have strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues, and risk assessments and experience working with individuals from diverse ethnocultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- The candidates should have computer literacy for documentation and reporting purposes and be bilingual in French and English or proficient in a second language
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care while ensuring security and safety in the client care environment and practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards, as well as Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Policies and Practice Model
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with the primary nurse to perform ongoing assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate interprofessional client care plans
- The candidates should be able to work with clients suffering from mental illness and detained under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB)
- The candidates should be able to liaise with other forensic services and community agencies to coordinate care for client and develop, implement, and monitor risk management plans to ensure compliance with ORB dispositions
- The candidates should be able to contribute to program development and provide educational support and supervision to students
- The candidates should be able to prepare ORB reports and implement unit-specific risk management processes and make behavioral observations, conduct mental status and physical assessments, and monitor patient responses to pharmaceutical interventions
- The candidates should be able to document and communicate ongoing client conditions effectively with team members and charge nurses
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of crisis intervention, addiction issues, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, and severe and persistent mental illness
- The candidates should be able to contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all regulatory requirements
