Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language
Education: Candidates should have medication administration certification
Experience: Candidates should have psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and addictions
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be self-directed team players who are highly organized
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of geriatric psychiatry, crisis intervention, and addiction issues
- The candidates should have registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) and computer literate
- The candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team
- The candidates should have strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, particularly related to the care of older persons with mental health and addiction issues
- The candidates should have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behavior
- The candidates should possess communication and interpersonal skills that enable them to work within an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment
- The candidates should have experience working with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- The candidates should be bilingual (French and English) and proficient in a second language
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide client-centred care to older individuals with mental health and addiction issues
- The candidates should be able to provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care while ensuring the security, safety, and compliance with CNO standards of nursing practice
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with the primary nurse to perform assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate the interdisciplinary plan of care for clients with mental health and addiction issues
- The candidates should be able to work as part of an inter-professional team, working with patients from diverse backgrounds
- The candidates should be able to provide education, support, and supervision to students and contribute to program development
- The candidates should be able to make behavioural observations, conduct mental status assessments, and monitor patients’ responses to pharmaceutical and care interventions
- The candidates should be able to document and communicate ongoing patient information with other team members
