Requirements:

Experience: Candidates should have two years’ recent Respiratory Therapy experience in an acute care facility servicing neonatal, pediatric and adult populations
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of light to heavy lifting daily, involving patient transfers and moving equipment or furniture in confined spaces and utilize touch, sight, smell, and hearing for ongoing patient assessment and observation within Stanton
- The candidates should understand that during their shift (100% of the time), they will be exposed to communicable diseases, blood, body fluids, and hazardous materials (such as sharps and toxic cleaning solutions), posing potential health risks
- The candidates should acknowledge potential exposure to emotionally challenging situations and demonstrate professionalism and compassionate care to patients, families, and healthcare team members
- The candidates should be prepared for a healthcare environment with significant lack of control over work pace, frequent interruptions leading to mental fatigue or stress, and unpredictability and recognize the responsibility for patient lives, potential risks of assault, and exposure to unknown and unpredictable situations
- The candidates should be willing to work 37.5 hours per week, participate in on-call rotations 24/7 (shared among three Respiratory Therapists, including the Clinical Lead), and be called upon frequently for respiratory therapy services (approximately 3-7 times per week), impacting personal and private life significantly
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of current respiratory therapy practices in both adult and pediatric or nursery critical care areas, including diagnosing and caring for patients with respiratory diseases, insufficiencies, failures, or related issues
- The candidates should have the ability to initiate various modalities of mechanical ventilation
- The candidates should be proficient in performing invasive and non-invasive procedures and diagnostic tests relevant to respiratory therapy
- The candidates should be capable of independently performing duties and prioritizing tasks based on proper judgment
- The candidates should possess computer skills, including word processing, email communication, and internet research
- The candidates should have knowledge of education principles applicable to adult learners, enabling them to develop and deliver specific training and development programs effectively
- The candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, capable of articulating information to both medical and non-medical individuals
- The candidates should exhibit well-developed motor skills, including the ability to manipulate small samples and repair delicate instruments in confined spaces
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform invasive procedures within the scope of respiratory therapy, such as bronchoscopy assistance, arterial, venous, capillary or umbilical cord blood gas sampling and analysis, endotracheal intubations, and arterial line insertions
- The candidates should be able to perform diagnostic test procedures related to respiratory therapy, including pulmonary function tests, peak flow measurements, pulse oximetries, sleep apnea testing, and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) trials They may also perform other tests based on institutional requirements
- The candidates should be able to review test results for accuracy and communicate findings to the appropriate healthcare team member
- The candidates should be able to conduct respiratory physical assessments of referred clients, including planning, recommending, implementing, administering, and discontinuing respiratory therapeutic interventions. This includes optimizing humidity and aerosol therapy, as well as oxygen and specialty gas therapy
- The candidates should be able to administer aerosol pharmaceutical agents to clients as per physician’s orders, observe for side effects, assess treatment efficacy, and document findings appropriately
- The candidates should be able to advocate for the dignity and self-respect of patients and compile departmental statistics according to the management information
system - The candidates should be able to promote patient autonomy by assisting them in expressing their health needs and values to obtain appropriate information and services
- The candidates should be able to maintain patient trust by ensuring that information learned in a professional capacity is shared outside the healthcare team only with patient permission or as legally
- The candidates should be able to apply principles of equity and fairness to ensure patients receive unbiased treatment and a share of health services and resources proportionate
