Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of High School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have minimum two years of experience in an Instructor Guard role
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and independently
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City and provide proof of their current and valid certificate(s), licenses, and educational qualifications, if applicable
- The candidates should hold Standard First Aid with CPR C certification recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) is required, or the candidates should obtain it at their own expense within the first month of employment
- The candidates should hold the following current qualifications LSS Instructors and Swim Instructors NL, Standard First Aid or CPR C and previous experience in a Head Instructor role and possess a post-secondary diploma in Recreation and Leisure and CALA and Water Art certification
- The candidates should be competent in instructing both Deep and Shallow Waterfit classes
- The candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with internal and external customers
- The candidates should show a strong commitment to providing quality customer service and supporting teamwork and strong organizational skills are necessary for the candidates to deal with fluctuating volumes and pace of work
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to assess, diffuse, or take appropriate action when dealing with difficult or challenging situations and proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook proficiency in Active Net
- The candidates should have a passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment
- The candidates should show a demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion and demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering quality customer service
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to ensure effective pool deck delivery of aquatic programs and services
- The candidates should be able to plan, instruct, evaluate, and document results for aquatic swim lesson participants and instruct a variety of waterfit classes, including mentoring new waterfit instructors
- The candidates should be able to apply lifeguard standards and superior customer service skills when guarding
- The candidates should be able to plan and implement fun days, special events, aquatic-based land programs, and daytime leadership courses and perform opening or closing procedures for the pool
- The candidates should be able to provide support, training, and direction to part-time staff and support aquatic meetings, trainings, and attend other corporate meetings
- The candidates should be able to assist in the skill screening program for recruitment, selection, orientation, and development of aquatics staff and support the process for payroll or timesheet submission and authorization for aquatics staff
- The candidates should be able to perform statistical analysis of programs and input results daily and use various computer applications, including Active Net, to assist in the administration of programs and services
- The candidates should be able to ensure that all relevant employment and workplace legislated standards are met and demonstrate creativity, skill development, and remain current with leading practices and procedures within the field
- The candidates should be able to ensure that their own work is performed in a safe manner according to health and safety guidelines and procedures
