Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be comfortable with irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays

- The candidates should be prepared to travel for company business without advance notice, including responding to unexpected emergency or urgent situations
- The candidates should have a strong commitment to safety while working in conjunction with collective agreements
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have industrial work experience demonstrating progression of responsibility and complexity in a safety-compliant environment, experience working with heavy machinery and 4 years of supervisory experience, preferably with management or unionized employees
- The candidates should hold a valid Driver’s Licence, Certified Conductor or Locomotive Engineer and degree in Business or Logistics
- The candidates should stay current with industry trends to elevate expertise and work and metrics to achieve ambitious targets and hold themselves accountable to meet performance expectations
- The candidates should inspire others with impactful communications and adapt well to their audience and make informed and timely decisions to succeed
- The candidates should show initiative and empower others to raise collective performance and comprehensive knowledge of safe rail operating practices
- The candidates should continuously improve processes to enhance safety, security, and reduce environmental footprint
- The candidates should identify risks and anticipate impacts to ensure a safe and secure environment and possess strong time management and project management skills
- The candidates should have general Microsoft and computer skills, especially in Excel, Word, SRS, SAP, PAP, and applications such as RTBI, DataCity, and SmartYard
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to attend Front Line Supervisor Development Programs to learn and understand the organization, operational rules, and regulations and ensure safe operation as measured by accidents, incidents, and employee injuries and achieve weekly and monthly safety observation expectations and objectives in relation to the safety management plan
- The candidates should be able to coach and train unionized employees on safe and productive work procedures and build safety compliance and improve safety results through regular safety observations, providing feedback and taking action on non-compliant behavior
- The candidates should be able to respond and provide support to the Transportation Manager and Assistant Superintendent for crossing accidents, incidents, or site of an injury, working with police and managing the site until track and service are restored
- The candidates should be able to respond and provide support for dangerous goods incidents or leaks, liaising with the Dangerous Goods Officer and ensuring employee and public well-being and submit accident and injury investigation closeouts
- The candidates should be able to play a role in investigating accidents and incidents and use operational data in CN systems to identify opportunities to improve asset utilization and service reliability, making recommendations and train, audit, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures
- The candidates should be able to oversee crew utilization, track deadheads, recrews, and labor costs, improving operations and cost control in conjunction with the Transportation Manager and Assistant Superintendent and set recovery plans for service exceptions with Rail Traffic Control (RTC) center, Transportation Manager, and Assistant Superintendent
- The candidates should be able to manage, monitor, and improve Initial Terminal Delay and Final Terminal Delay by overseeing accurate and timely reporting of delays and work with rail traffic control to manage train lineups and meets, predicting estimated arrival times and crew and manage crew productivity against switching standards and recommend improvements
- The candidates should be able to keep track of yard status, service commitments, and traffic processing to reduce dwell, ensuring train connections and departures meet the service plan and determine the best opportunities to move traffic against multiple demands and recommend cost control and asset utilization improvements
- The candidates should be able to monitor the customer service plan and make necessary adjustments and communicate company goals and policies to create clear understanding of direction and expectations for unionized employees and process administration leave of absence and time off requests as applicable and evaluate employee performance, review performance expectations, and overall ratings
- The candidates should be able to conduct investigations per the collective agreement and issue discipline with support from the Transportation Manager or Assistant Superintendent and Labour Relations and sustain appropriate employee behaviors with feedback, recognition, reinforcement, and coaching
- The candidates should be able to conduct onboarding conversations to ensure employees adopt proper work practices and have the necessary knowledge, tools, and understanding for their job and coach performance deficiencies and take action to build required behavior and share best practices, operational concerns, and company information to create transparency and clear understanding of company direction and expectations
