Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French  Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years of tractor-trailer combination driving experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to report their position, get instructions, check and report on upcoming road conditions, notify of arrival, and direct loading when necessary
  • The candidates should be able to hook up and unhook trailers to the tractor by grasping and rotating from shoulder to set/disengage pin lock
  • The candidates should be able to check oil, air, water, and washer fluid, adding as needed, and scale axle weights before each trip
  • The candidates should be able to install tire chains as needed

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be in possession of a Class 1 commercial driver’s license, with Hazardous Materials Endorsement where applicable
  • The candidates should undergo satisfactory physical exams every 2 years
  • The candidates should have successfully completed a comprehensive road test in company equipment
  • The candidates should have a clean driving abstract for a minimum of 3 years
  • The candidates should be preferred to have split-axle experience
  • The candidates should have knowledge of cargo loading and securing practices

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to drive a split-axle tractor/trailer combination to deliver goods from depot to warehouses and other locations within a 160 air-kilometre radius as outlined in dispatch instructions
  • The candidates should be able to haul empty trailers, trailers with pallets, and vendor loads back to depot
  • The candidates should be able to perform a driver’s vehicle inspection and fill out a report on assigned equipment prior to operation and update it throughout the day
  • The candidates should be able to record mileage and time on the driver’s log
  • The candidates should be able to drive a fifth-wheel hydraulic tractor to move, stage, and position trailers in the depot yard
  • The candidates should be able to cut lock seals for inbound trailers and check and log temperatures on refrigerated trailers, as well as log trailers in the yard
  • The candidates should be able to report on yard and dock view and receive direction from the guard booth, shipping, receiving, pallet, and fleet departments
  • The candidates should be able to communicate with co-workers, other drivers, and vendors by citizen’s band radio, two-way radio, phone, and in person
  • The candidates should be able to maintain all licenses, certifications, and testing in good standing and comply with company and government regulations, reporting, policies, and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to document accidents, notify the police and fleet management, and photograph the accident scene
  • The candidates should be able to assist with loading and unloading trailers at delivery and pick-up, as necessary
  • The candidates should be able to assist in other areas of the department as necessary
