City of Winnipeg’s Public Works – Fleet Management department oversees the maintenance and management of the city’s vehicle fleet. It ensures the reliability and safety of municipal vehicles, including maintenance schedules and repairs. Through efficient fleet management practices, the department optimizes vehicle usage and reduces operational costs. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Red Seal Certification in Heavy Duty, Truck/Transport, Automotive industry, Machining, Welding, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have Three (3) years experience with procuring and outsourcing of maintenance and repairs for various vehicles and equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically able to perform the duties of the job, which may include, but are not limited to, working outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have broad technical knowledge and experience in the field of Heavy Duty/Truck Transport/Automotive industry
  • The candidates should have three (3) years of experience working in a mechanical repair shop environment and possess strong computer skills with the ability to utilize maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct work process analysis and formulate and implement process change and should be capable of collecting and compiling data to prepare and write accurate detailed reports and documentation
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels of the organization
  • The candidates should possess strong analytical skills and the ability to organize and schedule activities and have knowledge of fleet maintenance operations and thorough knowledge of repair procedures in accordance with industry standards
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize, schedule, and coordinate repairs for a large diverse fleet
  • The candidates should be able to keep current with changes in both mechanical and equipment technology and should have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations
  • The candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and a Police Record Check satisfactory to the employer
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business, subject to the terms and conditions of the City Transportation Policy

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to manage the daily required repair and servicing work being sub-let to external repair vendors that cannot be completed internally within the WFMA repair garages due to limited time constraints or staffing resources
  • The candidates should be able to prioritize, schedule, coordinate, and monitor the daily external vendor work progress, utilizing fleet management software systems to maintain the City Fleet for maximum equipment life and minimal downtime
  • The candidates should be able to keep the Customer notified of the status of the repair, including the location, cost, and timeline for the repair
  • The candidates should be able to serve as the resource for outsourcing vehicle and equipment repairs that the shop cannot perform in-house, including mechanical repairs, maintenance, accident/incidents, warranty, recalls, and off-road tire requirements
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate, schedule, and monitor the rotation of sublet repairs and maintenance services to private (external) vendors
  • The candidates should be able to liaise between MPI & COW Risk Management for accidents and be responsible for repair authorization administration
  • The candidates should be able to ensure quality control of vendors and handle warranty administration and manufacturer recalls
