Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 3 years of experience in an operational environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of lifting 100 lbs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess training and experience providing underground utility locates, which is desirable
  • The candidates must obtain a Water Meter Installer Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer
  • The candidates should hold a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • The candidates should have an understanding of relevant sections of provincial legislation and regulations and City of Ottawa by-laws pertaining to drinking water
  • The candidates should be familiar with Unit and Section Standard Operating Procedures, operations manuals, processes, and other documentation
  • The candidates should have knowledge of equipment and techniques used to locate underground infrastructure, as well as an awareness of underground utility lines and other infrastructure
  • The candidates should demonstrate an understanding of plumbing
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including but not limited to the rights and duties of workers, Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration, and MOL Hours of Work regulation
  • The candidates must complete all on-the-job training (e.g., confined space entry, driver training, roadway safety, etc.)
  • The candidates should be proficient in operating personal and handheld computers and related software (e.g., MS Office, Maintenance Management Systems software).
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines
  • The candidates should be capable of reviewing and understanding maps, diagrams, and sketches that show IWSD’s buried infrastructure (e.g., water distribution system, wastewater and stormwater collection systems)
  • The candidates should be able to prepare sketches of IWSD’s buried infrastructure
  • The candidates should exhibit strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with contractors, homeowners, property owners, site supervisors of new residential developments, and other staff
  • The candidates should possess good communication skills (oral and writing)
  • The candidates should be able to work well independently and in a team environment
  • The candidates should demonstrate troubleshooting and organizational skills
  • The candidates should be willing to work overtime and be on-call, as needed
  • The candidates should maintain a positive attitude and be punctual and reliable
  • The candidates should be self-motivated and conscientious, as well as patient, calm, tactful, and polite
  • The candidates should have attention to detail and accuracy, and be able to prepare legal documentation

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to conduct planned locates of the City’s buried water and sewer infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to provide other support related to the City’s water and sewer infrastructure
