Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have Current Alberta Heart & Stroke BLS Provider Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have experience in an equivalent position in an operating room within the last 6 months
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of their shift
- The candidates should be physically capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 20lbs of force
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in the English language and should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage a fast-paced, demanding environment with shifting daily priorities
- The candidates should be reliable, cooperative, and demonstrate a high level of flexibility and have current training and experience with transporting patients and cleaning/restocking in an operating room setting
- The candidates should have previous knowledge and application of WHMIS
- The candidates should have Knowledge of body mechanics, along with a true interest in health care and the desire to help others
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide support within the Operative Services Diagnostic Treatment Centre, including operating theatres and the recovery room
- The candidates should be able to assist nursing and medical staff with lifting and positioning patients, as well as with special procedures such as holding limbs for prepping and cast application, and supporting patients in position for the administration of spinal anesthesia
- The candidates should be able to transport patients to and from the department both before and after surgery, ensuring their safety and comfort and able to assemble OR tables for specific surgical procedures under the direction of the surgeon and nursing staff
- The candidates should be able to handle and restock hospital equipment and supplies, including delivering specimens/blood to and from the lab
- The candidates should be able to ensure that special medical gases are safely transported, stored, and handled according to Canadian Safety Standards, and that biohazardous materials are housed in appropriate containers
- The candidates should be able to perform environmental cleaning of the Operating Room, including disinfecting patient use items and equipment, while following WHS standards
- The candidates should be able to report concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and collaborate effectively with the health care team to maintain a hygienic, well-equipped, and safe patient environment
- The candidates should be able to ready supplies, clean/disinfect instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff, and perform quality control tests on equipment while recording maintenance data
- The candidates should be able to distribute and replenish patient care supplies, transport patients, equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts as needed
- The candidates should be able to ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked, and that specialty equipment required by healthcare staff is available at all times
