Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a two-year diploma in environmental sciences, education and recreation administration
Experience: Candidates should have one year of experience as a JFR Crew Leader or in similar youth and organized outdoor program leadership roles
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have directly related education and experience, considered on a one-for-one basis, such as one (1) year of post-secondary education in a related discipline
- The candidates should have leadership experience with youth and organized outdoor programs and familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures, policies, and procedures
- The candidates should have experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe applications to create, edit, and convert documents and experience in organizing, reviewing, and synthesizing large datasets to develop annual reports, statistics, and continuous improvement initiatives
- The candidates should have at least one (1) season as a JFR Crew Leader, Sub Leader, or Crew Member and knowledge of or experience with the JFR program and the department’s standard operating procedures
- The candidates should have experience with team development initiatives, leadership, and conflict management skills and practices
- The candidates should have proficiency in power tools (including chainsaws and brush saws), hand tools, and field skills to effectively teach operational and troubleshooting procedures to staff
- The candidates should have strong organizational skills to maintain a staff database for recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluations and social media experience to promote program initiatives and recruitment
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to assist the Program Specialist in candidate screening, interviewing, and tracking job offers and collaborate with Indigenous communities to encourage applications, strengthen relations, and enhance outreach efforts
- The candidates should be able to monitor and create social media updates to promote program visibility and attend local and regional recruitment events to attract experienced individuals
- The candidates should be able to develop and maintain a database of program staff for tracking and reporting purposes and assist in planning Crew Leader training, preparing course materials, and organizing equipment
- The candidates should be able to deliver training modules on safety, technical skills, natural resource management, career exploration, and leadership development
- The candidates should be able to facilitate training opportunities in collaboration with internal and external partners and coordinate and distribute equipment to crews
- The candidates should be able to provide program leadership and supervision by visiting crews, offering guidance, and supporting area coordinators
- The candidates should be able to consult with Crew Supervisors on safety compliance, conflict resolution, and project coordination
- The candidates should be able to compile crew manuals and program materials for training and reference and implement and promote safety standards in adherence with Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- The candidates should be able to evaluate work and training requirements to support project planning and coordinate with program partners to supply necessary equipment, personnel, and logistics for the annual Bull of the Woods event
- The candidates should be able to prepare and present final reports and statistics for program assessment and improvement and review lessons learned and implement improvements for future program development
