Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have College Diploma in recreation or similar discipline
Experience: Candidates should have experience in coaching, convening, and officiating sports programs

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work normal working hours of 80 hours per two-week period
  • The candidates should be available for varied hours, including day, afternoon, evening, and weekend work as required
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift up to 45 lbs, meeting physical demands beyond sedentary work
  • The candidates should be physically able to perform all skills required to maintain Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer certifications
  • The candidates should have demonstrated success developing and implementing recreation, wellness, and fitness programs and initiatives
  • The candidates should have understanding of sales targets, budgets, and revenue, and should have excellent customer service skills
  • The candidates should have understanding of municipal and provincial codes, bylaws, and regulations that will have an impact on public programs and initiatives. This includes public health and safety issues

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have current High Five certification
  • The candidates should have current Personal Trainer and/or Group Exercise certification with a nationally recognized certifying body (CSEP, CanFit Pro, NSCA, etc.)
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the general principles of community development and physical literacy
  • The candidates should be experience in fitness programming and a general understanding of active living trends considered an asset
  • The candidates should have experience working with volunteer organizations in a leadership/support role, and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The candidates should have demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
  • The candidates should have strong organizational skills
  • The candidates should have ability to multitask, current Ontario Drivers’ License, and should also have current Standard First Aid/AED/WHMIS certification

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to, in collaboration with the Programs Supervisor, develop/promote/facilitate health and wellness initiatives to maximize facility usage and revenue generation
  • The candidates should be able to, in collaboration with the Programs Supervisor and other community partners, design and promote health and wellness programs, special events, and memberships within the Town through direct programming, indirect provision/facilitation, and collaboration with existing service providers
  • The candidates should be able to, in conjunction with the Programs Supervisor, represent the Programs team, the Recreation, Culture & Parks Department, and/or the Town on various community projects and committees
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate programming that may include sports, fitness classes, and/or personal training – supervision of part-time staff within these program areas
  • The candidates should be able to provide input to the Programs Supervisor regarding the development of the Programs budget for operational purposes, particularly in the areas of Health Club, adult, and fitness programming
  • The candidates should be able to purchase equipment and supplies as required and approved by the Programs Supervisor in accordance with the approved budget
  • The candidates should be able to submit reports, including program attendance, program operating cost projections, including revenue/expenditures, and membership statistics
  • The candidates should be able to adhere to all policies and procedures for the Town, manage, promote, and sell memberships, evaluate membership structure, and perform other duties as assigned by the Programs Supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to ensure participants are using Health Club, Personal Training Studio, and Fitness Class equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
  • The candidates should be able to ensure Health Club, Personal Training Studio, and Fitness Class equipment remains cleaned and maintained at all times
  • The candidates should be able to provide customer service to all participants in activities and programs
  • The candidates should be able to provide participants with information on Health Club equipment and also provide demonstrations on the proper usage of equipment to participants
  • The candidates should be able to update equipment checks and repair logbooks
  • The candidates should be able to maintain records of equipment usage, cleaning, repairs, and update supply lists for the assigned area
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and facilitate sports leagues, assist in Youth Programs where and when necessary, and assist in the training and continual education of part-time staff
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with Ontario sports governing bodies, Canadian Active Living Alliance, Can Fit Pro, County Board of Health, Boards of Education, area municipal recreation departments, Parks and Recreation Ontario
