Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of 10th grade or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have experience in custodial work, pool maintenance service work or related work experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have minimal swimming ability, being able to swim at least one length of a pool. Additionally, the ability to lift objects up to 20 lbs is required as part of the normal duties
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, along with a working knowledge of computers
- The candidates should possess a Level 1 Swimming Pool Operator’s Certificate
- The candidates should have current Intermediate First Aid, CPR/AED certificates are a condition of employment. Successful candidates will be required to obtain these certifications upon commencing in the position
- The candidates should have the ability to acquire knowledge of the standard methods, material, and equipment employed in the care and maintenance of swimming pools and related facilities
- The candidates should have demonstrated decision-making, prioritization, and time management skills
- The candidates should have knowledge that hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector check, satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- The candidates should demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same

Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to maintain facility cleanliness and ensure safe operation at various Leisure and Recreation Centres
- The candidates should be able to perform general janitorial work, involving cleaning the pool area, staff areas, indoor playground, floors, walls, windows, and fixtures. Vacuuming the pools and ensuring the washrooms are clean and disinfected is also part of the responsibilities
- The candidates should be able to pick up debris around pool areas and maintain pool filtration systems and able to monitor and balance pool water chemistry and perform periodic, scheduled readings
- The candidates should be able to conduct periodic security checks and report any security problems and assist in facility maintenance at the end of the day, clearing the facility of customers
- The candidates should be able to complete routine inspections and maintenance reports, as required and provide exterior site maintenance, including picking up garbage and changing garbage bags, as well as snow removal and ice clearing in the winter
- The candidates should be able to complete in-house training as required and able to perform other related duties as required
- The candidates should be able to use respiratory protection, including Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), for some duties included in this position. Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement for these positions
