Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade ten (10)
Experience: Candidates should have one year of cooking experience in an institution, healthcare, restaurant, hospitality setting, or related organization
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to organize work efficiently, work under deadline pressure, follow directions and be self-motivated
- The candidates should be able to operate and use all equipment and utensils safely, follow recipes accurately and control food waste
- The candidates should follow workplace hygiene, health and safety standards, adhere to safe work practices and work effectively as part of a team
- The candidates should be flexible to changing job demands, demonstrate alertness, dependability, and commitment and meet the physical requirements of the job
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have the Assistant Cook Certification program (15 weeks), knowledge of the Canada Food Guide, Ontario Public Health Act (Health Protection and Promotion Act: Food Premises), Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, Food Premises regulations, and the “Sanitation Code” for Canada’s Food Industry
- The candidates should be able to prepare bulk food, be capable of preparing and cooking vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, soups, and sauces
- The candidates should have elementary dessert preparation skills, general knowledge of buffet preparation
- The candidates should be familiar with preparatory methods for entrees, possess food inventory control knowledge
- The candidates should have knowledge of safe operations of kitchen tools, understand applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to assist the cook in preparing all food served, including general menu items, special diets, Meals-on-Wheels, and Day Care Resident meals, with a focus on resident safety and engagement
- The candidates should be able to perform food preparation duties in accordance with Public Health regulations, the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, and the Food Premises Act
- The candidates should be able to support the planning and implementation of food, nutrition, and environmental activities, programs, and services for residents of a municipal long-term care facility
- The candidates should be able to contribute to the coordinated development and management of hospitality services that promote resident well-being and satisfaction
