Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of at least 3 years of a post-secondary degree in a related field (Kinesiology, Sport or Recreation Management)
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of professional experience working in a fitness centre and front line customer service position

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have strong communication, organizational, and personal effectiveness skills
  • The candidates should follow mirroring operation hours which are as follows: Monday through Thursday 6:00am to10:30pm, Friday 6:00am to 9:30pm and Saturday through Sunday 8:00am to 8:30pm
  • The candidates should have Working knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • The candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of services and programs offered throughout Active Living

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess current CPR-Level C/Standard First Aid/Automatic External Defibrillator Certifications
  • The candidates should have demonstrated professional experience in a leadership role and Strong organizational skills
  • The candidates should have staff scheduling experience and demonstrate experience in handling cash and payment transactions and professional experience as a key holder
  • The candidates should have experience in fitness equipment maintenance and repairs
  • The candidates should have working knowledge of PeopleSoft and related University systems and knowledge of using tools to conduct maintenance and repairs
  • The candidates should have experience with various social media outlets such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist in the coordination of all operations within the Fitness Centre and associated fitness areas (High-Performance Studio; Gold Fitness Alcove) and act as a leader, mentor, and role model to part-time and junior staff, monitoring and discussing performance with the Coordinator and/or Manager where appropriate
  • The candidates should be able to continually update and maintain the day-to-day staff schedule, ensuring all staffing hour limits are followed, and suggest improvements in operations when necessary, discussing with the Coordinator/Manager and assist in the training of part-time and junior staff, helping the Coordinator in developing staff protocols
  • The candidates should be able to participate in quarterly staff meetings, assisting in the creation of a relevant agenda and delegate and ensure a continuous presence on the main gym floor, track level, and front desk of all staff on shift and ensure the Fitness Centre maintains a professional, inclusive, and welcoming atmosphere
  • The candidates should be able to provide continual updates on Fitness Centre operations to the Coordinator, Fitness Centre, and Manager, Health and Wellness where appropriate and ensure track closures are properly completed and the Fitness Centre opens and closes as per scheduled operation hours
  • The candidates should be able to track supply levels, orders, and receive necessary supplies through the University’s eProcurement program, following Supply Chain Management policies and ensure accurate record-keeping for risk management, such as cleaning and maintenance records
  • The candidates should be able to complete other duties related to the operations of the Fitness Centre and associated areas as assigned by the Coordinator/Manager and provide and model excellence in customer care, serving as an initial point of contact to all Fitness Centre clients, instructors, trainers, and other stakeholders
  • The candidates should be able to process program registrations, memberships, and day passes on the University computerized systems, ensuring the security of sensitive client information and following Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance standards and respond to patron questions and concerns professionally and friendly, obtaining detailed knowledge on all Fitness Centre and Active Living services and programs
  • The candidates should be able to act as the front-line authority for dealing with customer complaints or exceptions to policies and procedures, escalating and orient patrons on equipment unfamiliar to them, provide spotting services, and diplomatically suggest corrections on any improper or dangerous techniques
  • The candidates should be able to assist with communications of Fitness Centre updates, events, and closures to all stakeholders, maintaining marketing materials at the Fitness Centre front desk and handle new member orientations, including scheduling bookings and training staff on proper orientations
  • The candidates should be able to control access at the front gates, ensuring all members entering the facility have a valid membership, pass, or wristband and ensure security at various entrances and monitor the elevator/cycle centre entrance, enforcing access control
  • The candidates should be able to perform daily inspections on recently cleaned and maintained equipment, educating staff on proper procedures and escalating issues to the Coordinator and/or Manager and lead the cleaning and tidying of the Fitness Centre and other associated fitness facilities, ensuring accountability in all cleaning and maintenance activities
  • The candidates should be able to assist the Coordinator in updating cleaning and maintenance checklists, diagnose and attempt light repairs of malfunctioning equipment, and provide continual updates on equipment issues
  • The candidates should be able to complete thorough monthly safety checks, document emergencies and incidents, and follow proper emergency and incident procedures and know all Fitness Centre policies and enforce them as necessary, completing daily checks of the First Aid kit and putting safety and security considerations above all others
