Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a college diploma, degree specializing in ceramics, craft and design, or fine arts
Experience: Candidates should have at least three years of experience in a ceramic studio and some experience as an assistant technician
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be available and willing to work evenings and weekends
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess Emergency First Aid with CPR B certification, completed the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification if instructing children’s programs for ages 4-12
- The candidates should have excellent communication and customer service skills and provide a satisfactory criminal and vulnerable sector screening check dated within the last 30 days if they are new hires or have not previously performed in this position
- The candidates should submit letters of application addressing their expertise in professional work and community service
- The candidates should be able to provide a portfolio demonstrating their qualifications during the interview process
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to maintain ceramic studio equipment in good operating condition through regular weekly and monthly maintenance, safely operate all equipment and handle ceramic studio materials in accordance with WHMIS standards
- The candidates should be able to mix and maintain studio glazes and slips, as well as reclaim clay for programs, operate, fire, and maintain four electric kilns for all studio programs, adhere to all health and safety procedures and standards
- The candidates should be able to provide technical support to users and staff to ensure proper and safe equipment use, develop and deliver all required safety training for studio users
- The candidates should be able to manage the public Drop-in Ceramic Studio program for approximately 12 hours per week
- The candidates should be able to support instructors and students participating in various clay programs and communicate regularly with the Culture Coordinator and maintain all maintenance and safety logs for ceramic studio equipment
- The candidates should be able to ensure adherence to warranty requirements by following correct operating procedures and maintenance schedules
- The candidates should be able to uphold safety standards for all studio users and document all accidents or incidents immediately, ensuring reports are submitted within 24 hours and perform other related duties
