Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have an Early Childhood Assistant certificate
Experience: Candidates should have experience of working specifically with children aged 0-4 years old

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have availability between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with varying hours, potential split shifts, and a minimum of 3-day availability (preferably 5 days) required. Some work may be scheduled in advance or may be call-in work on the day of the shift, with no guaranteed minimum hours per pay period
  • The candidates should must obtain and maintain a valid standard first aid certification, including infant and child CPR, before employment commences and a valid email address for regular communication
  • The candidates should have a strong ability to work effectively in a team, follow instructions accurately, communicate both verbally and in writing, lift and carry children of various ages (up to 20 kg)
  • The candidates should be able to support and implement change reflective of the City of Toronto’s initiatives regarding Anti-Black Racism and Indigenous Communities, adhere to Health & Safety practices, and possess general knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Child Care and Early Years Act, and Child and Family Services Act

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to undergo a preplacement medical assessment and provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check
  • The candidates should possess a valid First Aid and CPR certificate in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act
  • The candidates should be registered with the College of ECE and maintain good standing with this registration (If the candidates hold a diploma in early childhood education or an equivalent qualification)
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of Toronto Public Health guidelines pertaining to child care environments

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist, supervise, and guide children in various daily activities, both indoors and outdoors, following established care routines
  • The candidates should be responsible for setting up play areas, assisting with children’s activities, and completing necessary documentation, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for the children
  • The candidates should maintain legislated ratios, supervise small groups of children, and interact positively with children of various ages while maintaining professionalism in interactions with parents, colleagues, and visitors
