Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family and Community Services Society based in Kamloops, BC is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Child-care worker (except day care). Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family and Community Services Society is a community-oriented organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening families within the Michif community. Specializing in culturally sensitive family services, the society offers a range of programs encompassing child welfare, counseling, and community outreach. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Salary: $37.55 hourly for 35 hours per week
Employment Type: Permanent employment Full time
Location: Kamloops, BC
Shifts: Day
Transportation information: Valid driver’s licence
Work setting: Work in employer’s/client’s home, Children’s services facility, Social service or charity agency, Community service organization, Community agency, Before and after school programs, and Associations and non-profit organizations

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Asset languages: Cree, and Michif
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as College/CEGEP or equivalent experience, Early childhood education and teaching, and Child development
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 2 to less than 3 years
Area of specialization: Aboriginal groups, Adolescents, Children, Families, Persons with an intellectual disability, Persons with learning disabilities, and Persons with mental health disabilities
Computer and technology knowledge: MS Office
Credentials: First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate, and Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check and Driving record check (abstract)

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in child welfare and knowledge of socio-economic needs or conditions, including housing, nutrition, unemployment, and financial assistance
  • The candidates should have expertise in programs dealing with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
  • The candidates should be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be physically fit for physically demanding tasks
  • The candidates should be capable of handling weights up to 45 kg (100 lbs), ensuring they meet the physical demands of the tasks at hand

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a client-focused approach, possessing excellent oral communication skills and showcasing flexibility
  • The candidates should be team players, exhibiting interpersonal awareness in their interactions with clients and colleagues

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to obtain information and prepare reports or case histories, appraising clients’ needs or eligibility for specific services
  • The candidates should be able to assess clients’ relevant skill strengths and development needs, implementing behavior management programs
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients, maintaining program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research
  • The candidates should be able to assist clients/guests with special needs, accompanying them to appointments and social outings, and interviewing inmates to assess adjustment problems
