Eastern Health’s Long Term Care department provides care and support services for individuals with long-term health needs. It offers residential care facilities, assisted living programs, and community-based services. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent from an accredited university program and successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship program
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience as a Clinical Dietitian

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to occasionally lift objects up to 25 lbs
  • The candidates should regularly demonstrate alertness to the health and safety of others, such as patients with swallowing issues
  • The candidates should provide advice to clients that impacts the health and safety of a client, for instance, reactions to food allergies and blood glucose levels
  • The candidates should regularly handle time pressures and deadlines, often without control over work pace, like meeting deadlines for inspection reports
  • The candidates should regularly maintain a high level of attentiveness for exact results and precision to determine nutrition diagnosis and interventions, such as calculations required for patients with renal disease and/or requiring enteral nutrition

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have current registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Dietitians (NLCD)
  • The candidates should maintain a satisfactory record of work performance
  • The candidates should communicate with food service personnel in the oversight of food provision and to assist in clinical nutrition decision making
  • The candidates should engage in practice, program, and quality improvement initiatives
  • The candidates should demonstrate and maintain competency in the provision of standard, advanced, and specialized nutrition care while working in this role
  • The candidates should hold current Advanced Food Safety Certification while working in this role

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be part of an interdisciplinary team responsible for monitoring and licensing Personal Care Homes and Community Care Homes
  • The candidates should be able to monitor activities and reports related to nutrition and food service for assigned Personal Care Homes and Community Care Homes to ensure compliance with operational standards and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the inter-professional health care team in providing nutrition care, counseling/education to residents and staff, and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings, annual review meetings, investigations of complaints, and inspections
  • The candidates should be able to complete monthly statistical reports as required
  • The candidates should be able to participate in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition programs and services in the community setting within the Community Support Program
  • The candidates should be able to respond to referrals from health professionals for nutrition assessment/counseling in the community setting
  • The candidates should be able to provide nutrition education and consultative services to Community Support Program staff and clients
  • The candidates should be able to participate in internal and external committees to promote nutrition, develop resources, and provide nutrition expertise
  • The candidates should be able to report to the program manager where they are providing coverage, which may include the Manager of the Personal Care Home Program, the Division Manager of the Community Supports Program, or the Manager of the Community Care Homes Program, and maintain accountability to the Regional Professional Practice Consultant for Dietitians for integrity and professional practice
