Community worker

Yekooche First Nation based in Fort St. James, BC is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Community worker. Yekooche First Nation have lived in the Stuart Lake area for thousands of years. Situated in a rich area encompassing the Skeena and Fraser watersheds, the community prospered until the arrival of the Europeans. The Yekoochet’en are interested in creating working partnerships with local industry for further development of their lands and resources. We have implemented training programs, seminars and workshops for their members in the areas of life skills, business development, business planning, administration, as well as fisheries, mining and forestry. The candidates who will get selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Job Description:

Position: Community worker with some duties as a substance abuse worker

Salary: $22.23 to $40.74 hourly for 40 hours per week
Employment Type: Term or contract Full time
Location: Fort St. James, BC
Work Setting: Rural area, Willing to relocate
Work site environment: Personal and social adjustment and health (substance abuse, gambling, behaviour disorders)
Security and safety: Criminal record check


Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language.
Education: The candidate should have minimum qualification of College, CEGEP.
Experience: The candidate should have at least 2 years to less than 3 years of experience in a related industry.
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses: Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor Certification, Mental health first aid Certificate.
Target audience: Aboriginal groups, Persons with mental health disabilities
Policy and program experience: Addiction or substance abuse

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to work under pressure.

  • The candidate should be able to work with being focused on the client and have excellent interpersonal skill.
  • The candidate should have excellent oral communication and excellent written communication skill.
  • The candidate should be flexibile, initiative and a good team player.


  • The candidate should be able to obtain information and prepare reports or case histories and also administrative and office activities.
  • The candidate should be able to conduct follow-up assessments and develop, co-ordinate and implement the delivery of specific services within the community.
  • The candidate should liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients.
