Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have certification as a journeyman welder and should pass the CP Rail qualifying test
Experience: Candidates should have previous welding experience
Medical Requirements: A pre-employment medical, including physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug assessments, is mandatory for new hires in safety-critical roles. Pre-employment qualification drug tests are also required. This applies to Trainee Program participants, who must pass a drug test during training for final qualification
Background Investigation: The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the clearances like criminal history check, education verification, and driver’s License Verification
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to comprehend blueprints and develop layout patterns for projects and calculate quantities of materials
- The candidates should be able to recognize defective welds, determine the cause, and perform proper repair procedures on the defective area
- The candidates should be willing to work away from home as required to support operations
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a working knowledge of the welding equipment involved with the various welding procedures
- The candidates should have a thorough knowledge of metals, electrodes, welding gases, and gas welding filler rods
- The candidates should have a working knowledge of the mathematical calculations pertaining to the welding trade
- The candidates should possess a valid driver’s license
- The candidates should have a safety-oriented work ethic supported by experience within the labor industry
- The candidates should be comfortable working on structures at heights with proper fall-protection equipment
- The candidates should have the ability to follow instructions, rules, and regulations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential
- The candidates should have the ability to work as a valuable member of a team
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform quality cuts with oxy & asset., air gouge, and lancing
- The candidates should be able to fit steel
- The candidates should be able to fabricate steel
- The candidates should be able to repair various structural components on bridges such as cracked stringers, floor beams, and perforated web members by installing splice plates, reinforcing plates, reinforcing angles, and other repair schemes provided
- The candidates should be able to read and interpret drawings
- The candidates should be able to handle the material ordering
- The candidates should be prepared for all other duties assigned by the structures supervisor
- The candidates should be able to understand that an emphasis on safety is critical for all employees, as this can be a high-risk environment due to working around heavy moving equipment
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to remain focused at all times and be willing to work in a team environment
- The candidates should be prepared to work outdoors at the work location, which means working in all weather conditions (rain, direct sunlight, snow, etc.)
- The candidates should be aware that there may be a requirement to work away from home as needed to support operations
