Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a three-year degree in Civil or Construction Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing to supply their own personal vehicle for performing job duties, corporate business before receiving a town-provided vehicle
  • The candidates should have the proven ability to interpret complex technical reports, drawings, and designs, and work with technical personnel
  • The candidates should have the ability to adjust annual vacation periods to suit workload demands

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation and be considered if they have a two-year diploma in Civil or Construction Engineering, with extensive related experience and a Certified Engineering Technician (CTech) designation
  • The candidates should have experience in construction scheduling/planning for land development applications and activities and knowledge of municipal road operations and inspections
  • The candidates should have experience participating in public meetings, and meetings with public and agency stakeholders
  • The candidates should have project management experience for ‘greenfield’ and infill development projects and be proficient in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, AMANDA System, and construction engineering software programs for project cost-outs and scheduling
  • The candidates should have completed Workshop Training in Ministry Road Design and Construction and Inspection
  • The candidates should be familiar with standards and inspection techniques for road construction in infill and ‘greenfield’ developments and be familiar with the town’s Site Alteration By-law, MOEE Acoustical Guidelines, utility agency standards, and OPSS design and construction standards
  • The candidates should have strong organizational and analytical skill, good oral presentation, verbal, and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure that all privately initiated public municipal infrastructure is inspected and constructed to established town standards, policies, and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to participate in meetings with public and agency stakeholders regarding concerns, policies, and design/operational requirements, especially related to road construction, driveway access, and right-of-way standards
  • The candidates should be able to track and report on the status of all inspection activities and maintain accurate records
  • The candidates should be able to review security adjustments based on construction scheduling, work undertaken by contractors, and site deficiencies
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the development of construction guidelines in consultation with technical staff for the preparation of the Section manual for the development industry
  • The candidates should be able to attend pre-construction meetings to ensure developer and builder compliance with the town’s construction policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to investigate and address landowner and homeowner complaints, ensuring timely and effective resolutions
  • The candidates should be able to respond promptly to inquiries from Salesforce or the public, providing clear and accurate information
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate closely with municipal enforcement officers to address violations related to Site Alteration By-law, Right of Way By-law, Pool Enclosure By-law, and Site Plan Control By-law
  • The candidates should be able to work closely with other Development Construction Inspectors to ensure inspection resources are met and perform other duties as assigned
