Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have have completed a Bachelor of Education Degree and be eligible for a Northwest Territories Teaching Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have recent teaching experience in a K-12 environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a strong background in Elementary Education and teaching in the core subject areas of English Language Arts, Math, and Science
  • The candidates should possess excellent classroom management skills
  • The candidates should have knowledge of, or a commitment to become knowledgeable of, the prescribed NWT Curricula in Language Arts and related areas
  • The candidates should have experience using data to inform instructional decisions and have training in Literacy and Numeracy
  • The candidates should have experience in multi-grade classrooms using Differentiated Instruction
  • The candidates should have an understanding of and experience in the integration of technology into classroom instruction

  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity and heritage
  • The candidates should be able to use data to inform decisions aimed at improving student success and achievement
  • The candidates should be able to integrate computer-based learning technology into classrooms effectively
  • The candidates should be able to implement outcome-based instruction and assessment strategies
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate a sustained commitment to literacy and numeracy initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to work creatively and collaboratively with a variety of partners in education
  • The candidates should be able to exhibit strong communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills
