Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a Diploma in Engineering Technology (Civil or Surveying
Experience: Candidates should have experience in civil engineering construction methods, equipment, materials, and practices

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to interpret specifications and standards and strong time management and task management skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to problem-solve and make independent decisions and be willing to travel throughout the region

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in fieldwork, including drafting, inspection, and control of construction projects
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
  • The candidates should demonstrate professionalism, possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and provide a recent and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to plan and assign the work of survey parties and inspect the work performed by contractors for adherence to approved specifications and government construction project requirements in a safe manner
  • The candidates should be able to provide technical engineering data to the contractor and survey crews regarding alignment and grades and check materials for quantity and quality and inspect for acceptable work practices
  • The candidates should be able to maintain harmonious work relationships with landowners and the general public by obtaining cooperation and explaining departmental policies and schedule, assign, and supervise the work of a survey crew engaged in providing field information for highway or bridge construction projects
  • The candidates should be able to review survey notes for completeness and accuracy and draw sketches illustrating work situations and assist in training survey personnel
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate work schedules with contractors when assigning crews and draft plans from field notes, plot cross-sections and right-of-way plans, and compute the volume of cuts and fills
  • The candidates should be able to calculate cross-section excavations, earthwork quantities, and project costs and write up survey information from field notes and run alignments
  • The candidates should be able to lay out intersections, install slope pegs, dot for center lines, set grades, and cross-sections
  • The candidates should be able to record quantities for estimates, prepare information for reports and progress payments, and review information from crew work
  • The candidates should be able to check calculations for estimates and test concrete for quality and adherence to specifications and perform other related duties
