Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have High school (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of three to four years in Environmental Planning, Environmental Sciences/Studies, or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have Over two years, up to an including four years of experience in environmental projects

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work effectively as part of a team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a non-probationary valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence
  • The candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding and knowledge of environmental initiatives, including climate change, sustainability, and natural heritage issues
  • The candidates should have a demonstrated track record of project management in environmental studies related to climate change, sustainability, and natural heritage matters
  • The candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office and exhibit exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service
  • The candidates should possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate sound judgment, good decision-making, and analytical skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to support the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the City of Brampton’s Environmental Master Plan and environmental management strategies
  • The candidates should be able to prepare special studies and reports and maintain databases, mapping, and communication materials relevant to land use planning, climate change, sustainability, and natural heritage matters
  • The candidates should be able to provide support with the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the Brampton Grow Green Environmental Master Plan (EMP), Community Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan (CEERP), and Natural Heritage and Environmental Management Strategy (NHEMS)
  • The candidates should be able to provide support with the City’s role on the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy and prepare special studies and reports on a wide range of climate change, sustainability, and natural heritage matters
  • The candidates should be able to support the preparation of climate change, sustainability, and natural heritage policies and objectives for incorporation into the Official Plan, Secondary Plans, and Official Plan Amendments Draft policies, plans, concepts, conclusions, criteria, and objectives
  • The candidates should be able to develop and maintain natural heritage databases, mapping, and communication materials relevant to land use planning, such as a natural areas inventory, natural feature restoration and enhancement, and natural feature remediation
  • The candidates should be able to present environmental plans and proposals at Committee of Council, Council, Brampton Environment Advisory Committee (BEAC), Public Meetings and solicit and invite input and participation from BEAC, the public, groups, agencies, conservation organizations
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance of recommendations, decisions, and actions within the framework of Provincial planning legislation, Regional and City Official Plans, regulatory approvals, and other relevant documents, such as Master Plans
  • The candidates should be able to undertake site inspections of development sites and the municipal natural heritage and open space systems and assist with the posting of information and documents on the Department’s internal portal and maintain project web pages on the City of Brampton website
  • The candidates should be able to represent the City of Brampton as a municipal participant/volunteer on public conservation groups; for non-governmental environmental forums
