Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Diploma in Social Work, Child Development, Youth Care
Experience: Candidates should have one year of relevant experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared to assist in carrying luggage and awkward items
  • The candidates should be prepared to assist in carrying and transporting young children, some of whom may be physically resistant to being carried

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess knowledge of a variety of basic counseling skills and supportive approaches to be utilized with the client and family
  • The candidates should possess effective communication skills in written and verbal form, as well as effective listening skills to fulfill the demands of the position
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the different referral agencies/services available within the community
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of a variety of issues and approaches
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act, Adoptions Act, and their regulations, standards, and guidelines

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to establish trusting relationships with at-risk families, fostering an environment of safety, empathy, and support
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate effectively with parents to develop and implement a family support plan that addresses their self-identified goals or those identified by clients, Child and Family Services staff, and Family Preservation Worker
  • The candidates should be able to assist parents in strengthening their parenting skills and knowledge, including understanding age-appropriate expectations, employing effective coping strategies, utilizing appropriate discipline techniques, and applying positive reinforcement
  • The candidates should be able to teach parents problem-solving and coping skills using various modalities such as positive discipline, solution-focused approaches, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, anger management, and coping strategies
  • The candidates should be able to help parents develop culturally appropriate strategies to address family problems, providing workshops and access to culturally safe and relevant parenting support resources
  • The candidates should be able to connect families with cultural supports available in the community, ensuring access to resources that align with their cultural background and needs
  • The candidates should be able to gather and maintain information on client progress, providing progress reports as required and documenting case notes in a timely and accurate manner using appropriate record-keeping systems
  • The candidates should be able to manage a client caseload, actively participating in case management and regular team meetings to ensure coordinated support for families
  • The candidates should be able to conduct ongoing assessments of client strengths, areas for development, and progress towards case goals, adjusting support strategies as needed
  • The candidates should be able to assist parents in creating and maintaining a safe and functional home environment conducive to the well-being of family members
  • The candidates should be able to complete critical incident reports promptly and accurately, ensuring that all necessary documentation is provided in a timely manner
