City of Brantford’s Finance department is responsible for managing the municipality’s financial affairs. It oversees budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Successful completion of a four (4) year post-secondary degree with an emphasis in accounting, business and/or finance or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four (4) years’ work experience in a related field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have previous experience to learn and apply accounting theories and concepts and on-the-job experience to work through the annual cycle and become familiar with the functions of the municipality
  • The candidates should currently be enrolled in a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) program at an intermediate or senior level
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, which is essential
  • The candidates must be available to work overtime during peak periods and must be highly motivated and creative
  • The candidates should demonstrate a high customer service orientation, excellent organization and communication skills, and the ability to work well independently and also as part of a team
  • The candidates should have a consultative and collaborative approach to working with clients and cross-functional teams

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to use exceptional analytical capabilities and attention to detail to provide financial planning, budgetary, management reporting, and analytical support to client departments
  • The candidates should be able to assist City departments with financial matters as their initial point of contact with the Finance Department
  • The candidates should be able to provide guidance to departmental staff and management on budgetary processes and variance reporting
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the ongoing implementation, training, and support of financial applications
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to year-end preparation of working papers
  • The candidates should be able to develop and update procedures and policies related to financial matters
  • The candidates should be able to work on other department projects as assigned
