  • The candidates should be able to maintain and develop effective relationships with external stakeholders such as professionals in the field of Health and Safety to remain current on trends, developments, programs, and practices, to exchange information, and to contribute to the existing body of knowledge
  • The candidates should have preferably in a related field, or possess a combination of equivalent professional experience and training
  • The candidates should have at least 2 years of experience managing people and one or more years of experience in a unionized environment
  • The candidates should be proficient in computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs and possess excellent team-building and leadership skills, with proven experience
  • The candidates should demonstrate sound organizational, analytical, judgment, and decision-making skills, with a proven ability in problem-solving
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships and strong oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to create a positive work environment and culture within the department, providing clear objectives and performance expectations for direct reports. They should conduct training and development needs assessments and ensure that direct reports are provided with the support necessary to deliver the expectations of their roles
  • The candidates should be able to support and collaborate with clients to plan and implement corporate Health and Safety strategies, Health and Safety Improvement Plans (HSIPs), and all associated programs to ensure a safe and productive working environment within established performance and policy standards. They should liaise with national stakeholders and clients to ensure prevention and incident reduction plans exceed targets
  • The candidates should be able to provide support, advice, and guidance to clients, stakeholders, and policy owners on workplace safety-related issues, policies, and related legislation. They should attend Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) meetings and provide recommendations on incident response and intervention
  • The candidates should be able to provide subject matter expertise and support to Local Joint Safety and Health Committee (LJSHC) members on complex concerns and regionally escalated matters
  • The candidates should be able to partner with national stakeholders (including national unions) as necessary in the development and deployment of communication strategies, education, training, and prevention awareness
  • The candidates should be able to analyze and monitor national data and trends on incidents, conduct root-cause analysis on serious incidents, and support clients in the development of action plans that will enable them to achieve their performance improvement targets. They should identify, anticipate, develop, recommend, and oversee the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to support the execution of safety audits to determine compliance with internal and regulatory requirements. They should monitor clients’ action plans to address compliance gaps
