Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as College/CEGEP
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 2 years
Cuisine specialties: Szechuan, Dim Sum and Cantonese cuisine
Product or manufacturing design: Product packaging
Type of operation: Baking or cooking
Food specialties: Stocks, soups, and sauces; Meat, poultry, and game; Fish and seafood; Desserts and pastries; Bakery goods and desserts; Breads and rolls
Area of work experience: Food services
Area of specialization: Kitchen
Equipment and machinery experience: Conventional oven, Deep fryer, Electronic cash register, and Grill
Own tools/equipment: Tools and Uniform
Credentials: Food Safety Certificate and Safe Food Handling certificate

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work in hot environments
  • The candidates should be non-smokers
  • The candidates should be comfortable working in air-conditioned spaces
  • The candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and capable of handling heavy loads
  • The candidates should be physically fit for demanding tasks, adept at handling repetitive tasks, and capable of standing for extended periods
  • The candidates should be able to work under pressure and possess a strong attention to detail
  • The candidates should demonstrate hand-eye coordination, have the ability to distinguish between colors, and be capable of bending, crouching, and kneeling as required
  • The candidates should be able to meet tight deadlines and handle loads up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to bring clean dishes, flatware, and other items to serving areas, set tables, and carry and replace linen
  • The candidates should be able to clean and sanitize items such as dishwasher mats, carts, and waste disposal units, clear and clean tables, trays, and chairs, and load buspans and trays
  • The candidates should be able to operate dishwashers to wash dishes, glassware, and flatware, place dishes in the storage area, and replenish condiments and other supplies at tables and serving areas
  • The candidates should be able to sanitize and wash dishes and other items by hand, scour pots and pans, and keep records of the quantities of food used
  • The candidates should be able to package take-out food, portion and wrap foods, prepare, heat, and finish simple food items, and serve customers at counters or buffet tables
  • The candidates should be able to stock refrigerators and salad bars, take customers’ orders, and use manual and electrical appliances to clean, peel, slice, and trim foodstuffs
  • The candidates should be able to clean and sanitize the kitchen, including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances, and equipment, handle and store cleaning products, and receive, unpack, and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards, and other storage areas
  • The candidates should be able to remove kitchen garbage and trash, sharpen kitchen knives, sweep, mop, wash, and polish floors, and wash, peel, and cut vegetables and fruit
  • The candidates should be able to train staff in the preparation, cooking, and handling of food, prepare special orders, and ensure that the quality of products meets established standards
  • The candidates should be able to bake mixed dough and batters, organize and maintain inventory, and demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
  • The candidates should be able to instruct cooks in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food, prepare and cook meals or specialty foods, and prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods
  • The candidates should be able to prepare dough for pies, bread, rolls, and sweet goods, batters for muffins, cookies, and cakes, and icings and frostings according to recipes or special customer orders
  • The candidates should be able to operate machinery
