It provide road maintenance, public transit, and cycling infrastructure to enhance mobility and sustainability. Functioning strategically, it aim to reduce congestion and promote safe transportation, crucial for Mississauga’s growth and residents’ well-being. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduate from a recognized University or College in Civil Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of five years experience of progressive municipal road maintenance and construction

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have successful working experience in a unionized environment
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-faceted team with both internal and external interests

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) registered with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) or a registered Professional Engineer with membership in P.E.O and certification in Lean Six Sigma
  • The candidates should have experience in dealing with senior management and elected officials on sensitive and political issues and leadership abilities, along with experience in the supervision of staff
  • The candidates should possess experience in vendor management, including bonding, security and warranty execution, contract negotiation, reporting vendor performance, and monitoring, which would be beneficial
  • The candidates should exhibit good judgment, tact, and diplomacy as demonstrated through excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills required for presentations, reports, briefing notes, contract preparation,  correspondence, strategic and analytical skills balanced with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach
  • The candidates should demonstrate good organizational and time management skills with the ability to self-manage
  • The candidates should be able to provide assistance to other Manager positions
  • The candidates should be able to form positive professional relationships with key internal/external stakeholders based on mutual respect and trust
  • The candidates should possess the ability to initiate and execute programs and projects utilizing sound project management principles, best practices, and theories
  • The candidates should have experience with various software applications with above-average abilities in MS Office and with INFOR, Public Sector Application Software, SAP and CONCUR
  • The candidates should possess a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license and availability of a personal vehicle

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide direct management of Works Maintenance staff, including recruitment, budgeting, scheduling, supervision and coaching and also lead, manage, support, and motivate direct reports, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality, organizational performance, continuous learning, and encouraging innovation and efficient use of staff, financial, and physical resources
  • The candidates should be able to foster a positive work environment through open communication and by working collaboratively with staff across and at all levels within the organization, including Union representatives
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the administration of all maintenance contracts, including budgeting, estimating, contract preparation, contract supervision and undertake the overall management of all contracted maintenance activities, as well as other functions related to maintenance of the City’s road and stormwater infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to administer winter maintenance, street sweeping, and leaf collection activities, including contract preparation, progress payments, and assignment of contractors to Works Operations
  • The candidates should be able to assist in developing the Works Maintenance budget and ensure contracted expenditures stay within the budget allocation and to ensure that construction logs are prepared by appropriate staff and maintain progress payments, invoice payments, and general records for all contracts
  • The candidates should be able to prepare departmental reports and plans, including the assimilation of data and public opinion and recoverable works for internal and external clients are appropriately invoiced and charged for both in-house and contracted maintenance work
  • The candidates should be able to provide LEAN initiatives through analyzing daily work procedures and respond to complaints and inquiries relating to contracted maintenance activities, utility work and administer contracted maintenance work assigned from internal and external clients
  • The candidates should be able to respond to emergency situations such as severe floods and snowstorms on a 24-hour basis and fulfill the membership duties of various departmental and inter-departmental committees and/or working groups on matters relating to the Division
  • The candidates should be able to perform duties as part of the Works Operations and Maintenance (WOM) Incident Management Team (IMT) during weather or other emergency situations and technical advice and recommendations on Works-related issues
