Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a minimum of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year’s previous experience with machines and equipment used, which includes trucks, vans, tractors, loaders, mowing equipment, and small hand equipment
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should be willing to work a 40-hour workweek in varying weather conditions and be available for shift work as required, including rotating shifts and weekend shifts
- The candidate should demonstrate mechanical aptitude, effective communication skills (both oral and written), customer service, and problem-solving skills
- The candidate should have proficient time management skills and flexibility in adjusting between a variety of duties
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have acceptable equivalent in education and experience and previous related experience in parks maintenance and with related equipment
- The candidate should hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class G minimum; DZ is considered an asset (standard and automatic transmission), with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior
- The candidate should provide the Corporation with a current driver’s abstract (no older than 30 days) and pass a Town-administered road test prior to assuming the position
- The candidate should possess an understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform litter pick-up and facility checks in the parks and open space system maintained by the Town and report any incomplete work or issues to the Lead-hand and Supervisor
- The candidates should be able to collect limbs and brush, rake, and perform debris and litter pick-up from roadsides, creeks, parks, parking lots, and other designated areas
- The candidates should be able to prepare grounds by hand digging, raking, and laying sod and adhere to assigned schedules for waste pick-ups and small litter removal
- The candidates should be able to shovel snow and salt walkways and act as a flag person on roadways to ensure traffic safety
- The candidates should be able to maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, tidy condition, conduct regular inspections and circle checks, and report defects in a prescribed manner
- The candidates should be able to apply safety precautions and procedures during duties and while operating motorized equipment, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation Temporary Conditions for Road Work, and the Town of Oakville’s standard operating procedures and policies and perform other duties
