Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Bachelor of Nursing degree or a Diploma in Nursing from one of the former recognized schools of nursing
Experience: Candidates should have significant acute care experience in one or more of the following emergency, ICU, medicine, surgery, pediatrics, or obstetrics

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a satisfactory Criminal Record Search with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • The candidates should undergo satisfactory Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks.
  • The candidates should undergo Enhanced Security Screening
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to travel within the designated area, be available for rotating work shifts (covering the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), handle stand-by designation (5:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and weekends), and respond to call-in situations in a timely manner

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada, Nurses should be eligible to register and maintain a license with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba
  • The candidates should have experience interviewing and supporting individuals who are experiencing difficult and stressful situations and experience conducting investigations, Knowledge of The Fatality Inquiries and Vital Statistics Acts and Experience in investigative procedures or medico-legal death investigations
  • The candidates should possess excellent analytical ability, excellent written communication skills and excellent verbal communication skills
  • The candidates should exhibit effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders
  • The candidates should have excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet conflicting deadlines
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • The candidates should have experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and Outlook), using the internet, or equivalent applications

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible to investigate circumstances surrounding sudden and violent deaths in the City of Winnipeg and periphery, including rural Manitoba
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with police and physicians, obtaining medical history and circumstances, preparing complex reports, collecting evidence, and providing direction in the handling of bodies
  • The candidates should be able to research and prepare summaries, interview pertinent professionals, conduct telephone interviews, and transport biological specimens
  • The candidates should be able to support individuals and families through periods of stress, conduct presentations to related disciplines, assist in program planning, and take photographs
  • The candidates should be able to consult with Medical Examiners in order to determine the status of each case and prepare necessary reports
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as required
