Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BN or BScN) with current registration in good standing with CRNM as a Registered Nurse
Experience: Candidates should have related experience in occupational health nursing

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates must be able to travel to various locations throughout Winnipeg and required to secure and maintain a Winnipeg Police Service Level 3 Security Clearance annually

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold a Canadian Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing; or be eligible for enrollment in a Certificate or Diploma program in Occupational Health Nursing, or possess an equivalent combination of occupational health nursing experience combined with enrollment in an accredited Occupational Health Nursing Program
  • The candidates should have experience in audiometry, spirometry, and vision testing and have experience in drug and alcohol testing and have knowledge of workplace ergonomics
  • The candidates should have experience in health assessments, immunization programs, and communicable disease/post-exposure follow-up
  • The candidates should have experience with disability management, return-to-work practices, including Fitness for Duty assessments
  • The candidates should have experience managing drug and alcohol addiction and dependency case files and have the ability to prepare and deliver program instruction and communicate effectively with management, union officials, and employees
  • The candidates should have knowledge of current Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) practices and confidential file management and knowledge of local community resources and agencies
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and possess excellent organization skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • The candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships in a collaborative team environment and must have and maintain registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse with CRNM

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide occupational health nursing services, including health surveillance, health promotion activities, and return-to-work programming to various departments across the organization
  • The candidates should be able to review employees absent from work due to illness or injury, recommend appropriate actions for management and prevention, and make referrals as required
  • The candidates should be able to conduct on-site assessments of the workplace to identify hazards and/or unsafe work practices and make recommendations for change
  • The candidates should be able to act as a resource on rehabilitation, workplace safety and health, and other committees and able to maintain confidential medical health records for employees and assist in occupational health clinics in the Occupational Health Services Branch
  • The candidates should be able to arrange for medical monitoring and provide fitness-for-work evaluations and monitoring and able to develop, conduct, and evaluate educational programs related to occupational health, prevention, and wellness
  • The candidates should be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in conjunction with human resources, management, unions, and employees
  • The candidates should be able to participate in research projects and quality assurance programs and be able to perform other duties as may be required within the job classification
