Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Master’s degree (MPAS) from an Accredited Physician Assistant program
Experience: Candidates should have 2 and 3 years of practical and work-related experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and as a member of an interprofessional team
  • The candidates should have demonstrated the ability to effectively and professionally carry out the responsibilities of the role
  • The candidates should have demonstrated the ability to establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with complex clients
  • The candidates should have demonstrated the ability to work under the direction of a Supervising Physician(s), including the ability to accept constructive feedback and direction

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) and a current member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) and Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHScPA)
  • The candidates should have demonstrated skill in critical thinking, analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making and excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated knowledge of mental health and addictions issues
  • The candidates should have extensive knowledge of the clinical standards related to the scope of practice of Physician Assistants and the ability to work with clients and colleagues from diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds
  • The candidates should have the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure excellence in client care, education, and research and effective organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should possess computer skills, including word processing, electronic communication, and workload measures and the ability to work flexible hours
  • The candidates should consider bilingualism (French and English) or proficiency in a second language

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist with conducting patient interviews and histories and to prescribe medication
  • The candidates should be able to perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to assist with other aspects of patient assessment and treatment
  • The candidates should be able to work with supervising physician(s) to address acute medical issues and to provide expert consultation to clients and community providers
  • The candidates should be able to engage in client education with patients experiencing mental health illness and addiction
  • The candidates should be able to make behavioral observations and complete mental status assessments and to monitor clients’ responses to care interventions
  • The candidates should be able to document and maintain ongoing communication with other team members
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with health care providers, both within and outside CAMH and to collaborate with members of the interprofessional team
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to program development, research, and educational activities of the service
  • The candidates should be able to support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements
