Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language

Experience: Candidates should have 2 to 3 years of practical and work-related experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work independently and as a member of an interprofessional team and demonstrated ability to effectively and professionally carry out the responsibilities of the role, including establishing and maintaining effective therapeutic relationships with complex clients
  • The candidates should have demonstrated skill in critical thinking, analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making and ability to work with clients and colleagues from diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds
  • The candidates should have the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure excellence in client care, education, and research and effective organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should have computer skills, including word processing, electronic communication, and workload measurement and work flexible hours

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHScPA) or a Master’s degree (MPAS) from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • The candidates should be a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) and a current member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA)
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to work under the direction of a Supervising Physician(s), including the ability to accept constructive feedback and direction
  • The candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated knowledge of mental health and addictions issues, extensive knowledge of the clinical standards related to the scope of practice of Physician Assistants
  • The candidates should have bilingualism (French and English) or proficiency in a second language

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist with conducting patient interviews and histories to support accurate medical assessments and perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures under supervision
  • The candidates should be able to prescribe medication as needed while working within their scope of practice and address acute medical issues in collaboration with their supervising physician(s)
  • The candidates should be able to engage in client education for patients experiencing mental health illnesses and addiction and provide expert consultation to clients and community providers on mental health and addiction care, make behavioral observations and complete mental status assessments
  • The candidates should be able to monitor clients’ responses to care interventions and adjust treatment plans accordingly, document assessments and interventions while maintaining ongoing communication with the healthcare team
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with healthcare providers both within and outside CAMH to coordinate patient care and collaborate with members of the interprofessional team to ensure comprehensive patient support, contribute to program development, research initiatives, and educational activities within the service
  • The candidates should be able to support a workplace that embraces diversity and encourages teamwork and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and professional requirements and work flexible hours, including possible evening shifts, and perform duties at the Queen Street site
