Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a valid Plumber Journeyman Plumber License for the Province of Ontario or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 5 years of experience including the apprenticeship-training program

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of hazards involved with work and safety measures to be taken and a creative approach to problem-solving
  • The candidates should have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Ontario Plumbing Code and the National Building Code and skills in interpreting blueprints, schematic diagrams, shop drawings, and manufacturer’s installation and maintenance materials
  • The candidates should have the ability to read and interpret drawings and manuals related to the job function and a working knowledge of computers and the FMP computerized maintenance system
  • The candidates should possess the ability to follow through and carry out assignments and ability to effectively work individually, as part of a team, or with diverse groups
  • The candidates should have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • The candidates should have on-the-job/work experience of 8,280 hours and 720 hours of in-school training

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide cost-effective facilities and services that support and promote excellence in teaching and research through the creation of a campus environment that promotes the University’s image and enhances the campus community
  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for installing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing or troubleshooting pipes, fittings, or fixtures for heating/cooling, water, or drainage systems, according to specifications or standards or plumbing codes in Ontario
  • The candidates should be able to comply with the health and safety procedures and guidelines provided and maintain and repair all plumbing systems, including but not limited to, pipes, fixtures, and drains, for water distribution, heating and cooling, ventilation, sewers, and water mains
  • The candidates should be able to install heating and cooling units, install pumps and vessels, rebuild pumps and install mechanical seals and solder and check for leaks on broken pipes
  • The candidates should be able to open clogged drains with various manual and powered drain cleaning equipment, check and maintain fire hydrants, estimate and record materials and time required for work orders and should lay out work, assemble equipment, and fabricate as required, assuring the work area is kept safe and clean
  • The candidates should be able to assist with other trades i.e. steamfitters, air conditioning, electrical, and perform other duties as assigned
