Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in conflict resolution
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be Canadian citizens and be at least 16 years old on polling day
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience in receiving and recording personal information from the general public and in completing paperwork or forms
- The candidates should have experience in dealing with the public, be tactful and exercise good judgment and remain polite and courteous and demonstrate professionalism
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to set up the poll and verify electors’ ID and issue ballots to electors and provide instructions
- The candidates should be able to update the list of electors and complete paperwork to record that an elector has voted
- The candidates should be able to count the ballots, complete the related forms, and inform the Elections Canada office of the results
- The candidates should be able to return the ballot box and related materials to the returning officer or central poll supervisor, as instructed

Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to ensure that polls are set up on time and supervise and provide breaks for poll workers
- The candidates should be able to distribute materials to poll workers, ensure proper application of the Canada Elections Act at the polling place
- The candidates should be able to supervise the counting of the ballots, ensure that electors and candidates’ representatives follow all guidelines
- The candidates should be able to manage the collection and return of the ballot boxes and election material

Special requirements for the above mentioned jobs:
- The candidates should have basic literacy skills (reading, writing and comprehension), and basic interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise impartiality and to deal with people who may be impatient
- The candidates should have ability to serve electors with disabilities, ability to perform repetitive tasks, and basic analytical skills
- The candidates should have good attention to detail, ability to follow directions and adhere to standards, ability to learn quickly, and ability to work long days (at least 13 hours)
- The candidates should be standing for long periods of time, standing or sitting close to exterior doors when there could be inclement weather, and be capable of checking the exterior of the polling place
- The candidates should be capable of completing detailed forms and paperwork with legible handwriting, counting ballots (requires basic arithmetic skills), and be also capable of ensuring that electors and candidates’ representatives follow all guidelines
Who can work:
- The candidates should be a Canadian citizen
- The candidates should be at least 16 years old on election day
- The candidates should be non-partisan and refrain from any partisan political activity during the term of your employment
Who cannot work:
- The candidates should not be federal ministers or members of provincial executive councils, not be senators not be sitting members of the House of Commons or of provincial or territorial legislative bodies
- The candidates should not be certain judges and not be in the last general election or in a by-election held since the last general election
- The candidates should not have served in Parliament in the session immediately before the election or in the session in progress at the time of the election
- The candidates should not have been found guilty of an offence under an electoral law relating to federal, provincial, municipal, or school board elections or under the Referendum Act in the previous seven years
