Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a degree or diploma, preferably in a related field (i.e., Environmental Studies, Outdoor Education)
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years of related programming and planning experience 

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work in an office environment, involving extended periods of sitting and computer use
  • The candidates should be able to handle occasional travel for meetings or collaborative work

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess 1 year of supervisory experience
  • The candidates should have working knowledge of related legislation in the applicable area of discipline is required
  • The candidates should have proficiency in MS Office is essential
  • The candidates should have customer service skills and experience
  • The candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills are a requirement and a standard First Aid and CPR certification is a prerequisite
  • The candidates should have a valid Ontario non-probationary Class G Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle are necessary

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to supervise support staff, including contract, part-time, and volunteers. This involves daily supervision regarding work duties, scheduling, adherence to City policies and procedures (e.g., Health and Safety), and payroll documentation
  • The candidates should be able to interact with customers to ensure program delivery meets customer expectations and service standards. They should aid staff in problem-solving, ensure timely follow-up and completion of correct documentation regarding accidents and incidents, or customer concerns and requests. Additionally, they should meet with community groups to foster community stewardship skills and environmental engagement
  • The candidates should be able to provide data such as customer statistics on usage, attendance, revenue, fill rates, and other important measures to the Coordinator and others as required. They should provide input to the budgeting process, including monthly forecasting and monitoring of revenues, expenditures, and net. Furthermore, they should report on trends, emerging issues, and potential areas of growth, keeping staff and volunteer data regarding certifications and training
  • The candidates should be able to develop and deliver various Parks programming, outreach, and education programs. They should assist with the preparation and proofing of materials related to the marketing of programs, ensuring supplies are adequate
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that programs offered are of excellent quality, use awareness of emerging customer requirements to make recommendations for improvements and future programs, conduct program visits, focus groups, and surveys to collect information and ensure quality control. They should interpret reports in terms of appropriate changes and areas of growth and liaise with other municipalities for benchmarking comparisons.
  • The candidates should be able to meet regularly with staff, recruit, train, and coach individuals, provide performance evaluation feedback, including discipline if needed, and evaluate staff training needs, arranging for training initiatives, particularly regarding qualifications and certifications. The candidates should also be available for hands-on assistance and decision-making
